What is a Cisco Nexus Switch?

First released in January 2008, Cisco Nexus Switches are designed using Cisco Unified Fabric to provide streamlined access to all network and storage entities – connecting physical, virtual, and cloud environments to support a virtual data centre.

Cisco Nexus Switches deliver network agility by supporting dynamic resource allocation, complex workloads and are easily scaled depending on data centre size. Users can simplify operations with the built-in policies and services, offering consistent delivery and management of network functions across cloud environments, and benefit from single-point management of LAN and SAN access, minimising disruptions to network operations.

Each Cisco Nexus Switch runs the NX-OS firmware and OS – which expands on Cisco’s IOS and integrates company storage with the IOS routing code. The modular design adds extra network protection by containing faults before beginning the automatic recovery process, minimising the need for human intervention.

Nexus Switches offer a dependable and flexible infrastructure that gives users the high performance required to run next-gen data centres. The Nexus Switch range comprises of eight different device ranges, each optimised for specific deployment situations:

Although a lot of Cisco’s Nexus Switches have now reached their end-of-life, the technology that powers them continues to be of significance to many data centres. End-of-life doesn’t mean end-of-use, and with Cisco Refresh you can continue to use the reliable Cisco Nexus Switches in your network with the same warranty, quality, and support you would expect from a new product.
