What is Remanufacturing?
Remanufacturing is a key component of a circular economy, offering consumers resource-efficient products often at a significantly lower price point to their new counterparts.
Remanufacturing sits between the reuse and repairing of products but isn’t as drastic as fully recycling. Recycling involves completely deconstructing an object once it’s reached the end of its product life and repurposing its raw materials, often for a completely different product.
Remanufacturing operates in a similar fashion, but with a few key differences. Rather than being sent to a recycling centre where it could be repurposed for anything, remanufacturing is typically performed by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to reuse the components of an end-of-life product in a similar product line, often centred around electronic items.
